A breezy hour of comedy. Seinfeld at his best entering the next phase of his career as he turns 65. He’s the, dare I say, the Bill Cosby of this new decade. He’s animated, talking about his observations, which are all our observations. He makes you laugh at yourself, your wife, your friends, and family.
As a man of a certain age, I’m marveling at his hair color and I need to know where he gets his hair done.
You’ll notice that he’s the professional when he has the microphone stand lined up in the center stage and he rolls it purposely out of the way. That stand is never used again.
And you’ll notice that the helicopter that he drops into the river outside of Manhattan without a stuntman. That is now on my f/bucketlist :).
This guy – in his latest Amazon Prime special continues amusing audiences with his big guy discussions about weight, appendices, horses, New Zealand, cheese…
He talks about cheese, you think he’d take the joke to any mammals can make cheese. And now I look at my fiancé a little differently.
His line that I’m quoting that all, especially Dave Chappelle, should use regularly is, “I can see how you want to be offended, but there’s no reason.”
Jim’s “Quality Time” is a kid friendly show to give you kids some incite into dad’s world.
Dave Chappelle has had a lot of controversy so far in his comedy career. Born in 1973 and starting to hit the NYC comedy scene at 17 in 1990 he pushed into Russell Simmons HBO’s Comedy Jam in 1992. He moved around TV and movies until 2003 when he launched his Chappelle Show which ended after three seasons. The next 15 years, Dave Chappelle kept moving forward, and in 2018 started touring and releasing Netfllix specials. The last was was released in August 2019.
Sticks and Stones on Netflix could be taken either way – but the live Atlanta, GA audience loved it. Dave Chappelle takes a handful of controversial current event topics and throws the spotlight on them to show their absurdity. Between the current event topics, Dave drops his personal experiences taken throughout his life from his childhood to adulthood – and makes you laugh. Dave solves the gun issues (mass shootings) in America during one joke but ends on a school shooting joke that ties it all together.
Dave Chappelle has a method and he knows that the jokes carry on the story and then impact on the punch line. The stories keep your attention, they shift direction every 10 seconds to keep you on your toes and then they hit you with the punch line. Here’s a crude example that shows his process:
Dave Chappelle’s Future
Despite his recent tanking in ratings, I predict Dave will continue to pump out comedy based on current events and his current and past life. In the future, you should expect his brash humor to be reflected on as not being that harsh. He will likely be the next Lenny Bruce. And has been chosen to be awarded the Mark Twain Award for 2019. But….
Recently, the comedian Kevin Hart was pulled from hosting the Oscars due to tweets that upset the LGBQT community. Dave Chappelle talked about these tweets in his Sticks and Stones show and added additional LGBQT jokes. So, we will wait until 27-Oct-2019 to see if he’s able ward off Kevin Hart’s fate.
